This session was presented live at NSC 2025. It takes tremendous courage for our panelists to share their personal stories—some are lighthearted, even humorous, but many carry a deeper, more serious undercurrent.
We must acknowledge the truth that, even in 2025, safety is not something women can take for granted. While many men may move through the world without routinely considering their personal safety, for most women, it remains a daily calculation. And yet, here we are—women continuing to thrive in this profession, contributing skillfully and powerfully to the field of surveying.
The question before us is not whether women can be effective surveyors—we’ve long proven that. The real question is: how can each of us—regardless of gender, role, or experience—contribute to a culture where safety, respect, and equity are the standard, not the exception?
Let today’s stories spark action. Let’s listen with empathy, reflect with honesty, and commit to creating a future where every woman in surveying feels not only seen, but equal.
Marie Robidoux
I am currently on my 5th career – started in law, hospitality, land surveying, Indigenous relations for oil and gas, and back to land surveying as ACLS Registrar. I am a sports nut and will even watch Australia rules football. I play goal in a coed ball hockey league in the winter and golf in the summer. My 6th career, when I retire from all things surveying (maybe), will allow me to indulge my love of writing. As some of you know I love writings reports! But what I love even more is writing stories.
