Dr. Geneviève Béchard, Director General, Canadian Hydrographic Service
Dr. Geneviève Béchard was appointed Hydrographer General of Canada and Director General for the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in 2018. She joined CHS at an exciting time with the delivery of the Ocean Protection Plan and the move to digital through the implementation of the new S100 standards. Dr Béchard has 33 years of service with the Canadian government, the last 18 years as an executive with the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, the Geological Survey of Canada, the Meteorological Service of Canada and the CHS , all federal science and technology geospatial organizations. Dr. Béchard currently holds the positions of Chair of the International Hydrographic Organization Council, Chair of the United States – Canada Hydrographic Regional Commission and Chair of the Arctic Regional Hydrographic Commission.
